All J wanted to do was get some peace and quiet for once, away from these Earthlings.
But here in this space station corridor, his ship moored serenely out the nearby window, J was being accosted by a furious little old man - Liger Shishioh. Renais’ father.
“How DARE you spend months alone with my DAUGHTER! A man and a woman alone together! Don’t think I’m so old that I don’t know what happens in situations like that! I would know!”
Renais did tell J about her many, many half-siblings, with a similar venom in her voice.
The little man kept ranting at the tall alien, invading his personal space.
“Do you even know what it means that I’m her FATHER?!”
“No.”
“Don’t you know you’re supposed to ask me for permission first?!”
“No.”
“Don’t you know what she’s been through?! You think you can just show up out of nowhere and act like you’re permitted to be around her?!”
“Funny, she mentioned you did just that.” J added plainly.
“She–She what?” Liger stopped ranting for a moment to hear what Renais had said about him.
“During these ‘months alone as man and woman’ she mentioned that you showed up and started acting like her protective paternal figure, despite the fact that she’d never seen you before in her life.”
Liger was stun-locked by J’s direct response, paired with Renais speaking so negatively of him, even to this alien. Eventually he managed to spit out, “Just…Just WHAT do you INTEND TO DO with my DAUGHTER?!”
The question rang out down the corridor. After some moments, there was only the sound of Liger’s furious breathing.
Sensing a chance to be as clear-cut as possible with the man and maybe even get away from him sooner, J continued.
“Listen. Far be it from me to even attempt to understand the way that Earthling relationships work. My culture did biological engineering. Child-rearing in the way that Earthlings do, to my people was seen as old-fashioned, barbaric, and taboo. With that said, the way that Renais described you - as an empty void in her life that merely provided genetic material and immediately left - is about as close to understanding Earthling relationships as I can get. But to hear the pain in her voice, it seems that she expected a lot more out of you. Frankly speaking, it sounds to me like you demand her obedience on the pretense that you did the bare minimum in her life. On the flip-side, she’s chosen to stand and fight by my side.”
Liger quivered with fury.
“As for what I intend to do with ‘your daughter’,” J’s helmeted head was now invading Liger’s personal space. A rare sight appeared on his face - a toothy grin. “I intend to do whatever she pleases.”
