The First Death part 2

Darkness. Darkness upon darkness. Nothingness upon nothingness. Until, from the ether, a whisper: He didn’t recognize the language, but he felt its meaning: Take care of your head. Then a realization. With a start, Rook sat bolt upright, clutching his chest, gasping for air. Except there was no fight in the air, it happily filled his lungs. And his chest was intact. Despite his sudden panic, and the lingering feeling of oblivion, all was okay. He put a hand over his bullseye just to be sure, and when he was satisfied, he let out a sigh. ...

The First Death part 1

“Are you sure you wanna go through with this?” An automated twin needle jab into the neck quickly brought up the name “SAVINIEN ROOK” on the coliseum signup display, along with a rotating 3d display of the namesake’s head. Other unique identifying features were also displayed, like fingerprints, retinal scan, a similarly rotating 3d display of his spinal column, and his lone tattoo. RACE: Human ORIGIN: Akabyssus [KR67Q3SQ15] TYPE: Carbon-based ...

A Challenger Approaches

(10 years after the events of The One Where Rook May Or May Not Have Slept With Ace’s Mom ) “SAVINIEN ROOK” boomed over the stadium speakers, and the rhythmic echo of ‘rook, rook, rook’ brought him back to the cheers from the audience. The retired champion looked out from his glass box in the stadium towards the field to see who was calling for him, but the hovering cameras found the culprit first, and every screen in the coliseum was filled with his face. ...

The One Where Rook May Or May Not Have Slept With Ace's Mom

The interstellar train dropped them off at the orbital station, the elevator platform lowered them to the planet’s largest metropolitan center, and the intercity jumpwarp shot them to the nearest southern capital, and that’s where all convenient forms of public transportation ceased. Despite being a capital city, it was the planet’s most destitute. Not even the paid caravans were available past the morning rush. And so the crew legged it the rest of the way, carrying their luggage with them. A 3 hour hike through the dilapidated urban center, the yellow sands which were quickly encroaching upon the city, the mud, the thickening vegetation, into the humidity of the freelands. Along the way, the road shrank and shrank until the walking path was merely the telltale triplet set of tire tracks in the swamp. ...

Fistfight Club

CLANG! clatter The sound of two metal swords striking the cool tiled floor of the arena. Gasps and cheers from the surrounding audience, the sounds bouncing off of the cloth roof barring the heat of the twin suns above. A slow-motion video played from the hovering screens showing that Rook had managed to deftly wrap the flexible steel of his rapier around the claymore of his opponent and cast it aside with a flick of his wrist. But a sudden jolt from his opponents strong arms sent his own sword flying as well. ...

That one time Liger confronted J

All J wanted to do was get some peace and quiet for once, away from these Earthlings. But here in this space station corridor, his ship moored serenely out the nearby window, J was being accosted by a furious little old man - Liger Shishioh. Renais’ father. “How DARE you spend months alone with my DAUGHTER! A man and a woman alone together! Don’t think I’m so old that I don’t know what happens in situations like that! I would know!” ...

Drunk

📜 Well, you see, when a trans man and a giant crocodile lady hate each other very much… Ace and Rook stumbled drunkenly, hurriedly down the hall of the ship, into the vacant guest quarters. Though their angled brows and venomous words for each other suggested a longstanding resentment, the blush on their cheeks and the biting of lips revealed that even though they weren’t each others’ biggest fans, the curiosity to see what the other had going on had been killing them. ...

Introduction 2

[After a thorough cleaning, Rook replaces the saber back into his sword belt] [He removes a notebook from his back pocket, licks his thumb to flip through the book] Rook: Let’s see here… [He uncaps the marker with his mouth again after finding the name he was looking for] [As he lines up the marker with the name in the book, he looks up grimly, stares directly into the privileged glass box in the audience, at the attending administrator] ...

The Vineyard

Orbital Station, Earth “Even Warriors need rest every once in a while.” J made a face, which only registered as flattening his lined mouth even more. “That’s what Kaidou told me you said to him once, when he was still a kid.” Renais stood with her hands on her hips, looking up defiantly at the stork-like alien. “He said it struck him because he’d never heard of anything like that out of you before.” ...

Introduction

(I don’t know what leads to this, maybe they need 4 people to pull something off) Gus: But who? [Looks directly into the camera] Gus: Who could possibly be the 4th member of our motley space pirate crew? [Stella and Ace in the background look at each other, confused] Offscreen announcer: OUR NEXT FIGHTER… HERO PROTAGONIST! [The crowd cheers and whistles] [The fighter curtain raises to reveal generic anime hero man. He’s acting humble and shy, waving slightly at the audience and pretending to be blushing. He’s already kind of insufferable.] ...

They Throw Some Wild Parties on the Red Planet

With a lot of luck, if you hop a few galaxies away from the Milky Way and find an unassuming star like any other, you might happen upon the Trinary System. You’ll know it’s the Trinary System because while its star is unremarkable, there are 3 distinct planets orbiting it, immediately recognizable from their vibrant colors that they’re named after. Furthest from the star is the Purple Planet with its culture of people who have managed to vastly improve their lives by engineering viruses to lengthen lifespans. Their mastery of machinery is also unmatched, having efficiently terraformed their planet into a wonderland of automated machines to take care of every task imaginable. Suffice to say, the Purple folk lead very pampered lives. ...

What is it that makes him so intimidating

The newbie fighter asks a coach. The coach fills a pail with some water and some soap. She turns the tap off, straightens up, takes a deep inhale, lifts the bucket and sighs. “Imagine being a field mouse. Really take the time to imagine it. You’re in the grass, foraging for seeds and berries and bugs. The sun is shining, so you are careful to stay as hidden as possible, but the field is great and you are small. Still, you can’t help but feel like you’re being watched. Then the feeling becomes unbearable. You sense something behind you, above you, upon you. You turn, and now you are aware that this is the last split second of your mouse life. ...

His helmet falls to the floor with a heavy “TONK” Rene crawls onto his captain’s chair, looks down at his newly uncovered sky-colored eyes. “J…It’s going to be a long trip…And we both have to put up with the newlyweds.” She gives an annoyed sideways glance towards the bow of the ship where Gai and Mikoto were likely being a married couple. J does nothing but stare unyieldingly up at her. ...

Gargoyle

Hyrule Castle. Early evening. There is a great commotion in the castle courtyard. Military drills, crowds of nobility, the extended royal family. The promise of a royal ball and banquet later. Roam arrived earlier in the day, unaware that there was any kind of celebration going on. Having been out on a self-scheduled scouting mission for months, he felt that he should return to the castle to record what he found, at least to keep up appearances that he was actually doing something. Upon arriving at the castle and seeing the preparation for the day’s events, he steered clear of the crowds. He’d grown up around the castle, so he knew of a few shortcuts and hidden passages. ...
